Found a free texture pack that fixed my broken Skyrim landscape in 10 minutes
After messing up my grass with a bad mod install last week, I stumbled on a community-made vanilla-friendly texture replacement that just gets dropped into the data folder and everything matched again, has anyone else had luck with simple file swaps over complicated tools?

The 10 minute claim might be a stretch unless you already had the pack downloaded. I've done a few file swap fixes myself and it usually takes longer because you have to match file paths exactly or stuff breaks again. For Skyrim's landscape textures, the vanilla ones are scattered across multiple BSA archives so a simple drop-in replacement only works if the mod author repacked everything into loose files with the right folder structure. I had a similar fix with the "Septentrional Landscapes" pack where the readme specifically said to extract to the Skyrim Data folder and override, which did work but took me like 20 minutes finding the right version for my game. The big thing is making sure the texture sizes match your original so you don't get weird seams or clipping.

Yeah and even then sometimes the mod author's folder structure is slightly off from what your game expects. I remember grabbing a mountain texture replacer once and it had like an extra "textures" folder inside textures so everything was one layer too deep and just defaulted back to vanilla. Had to manually drag everything up a level which took way longer than the actual download. Also if you're using MO2 instead of Vortex the loose file priority works totally different, learned that the hard way when my grass textures just refused to show up for like an hour.
