Unpopular opinion: my $200 smart thermostat was a complete waste of money

I spent $200 on a Nest thermostat thinking it'd save on energy bills, but after six months my HVAC usage actually went up because it kept learning wrong patterns and running at weird times. Has anyone else had a smart home gadget backfire on them?

Yep, had the same problem. Factory reset mine and turned off the auto-schedule feature. Now I just set it manually and it works fine - basically turned a smart thermostat into a dumb one that costs $200.

Funny you mention it running at weird times, I used to defend smart thermostats until mine did exactly that and jacked up my bill.
