Tried to fix my own sink and flooded the kitchen floor

The shutoff valve was old and snapped clean off when I turned it, spraying water everywhere for a full minute before I could get to the main. My wife just walked in and said 'well, you tried.' Anyone know a good plumber in Phoenix?

Oh man, that exact thing happened to my uncle! He tried to be a hero with a rusty outdoor spigot and it just sheared off. Water was shooting straight up to the roof. It's crazy how those old valves just turn to powder. I feel your pain on the mad dash to the main shutoff, that's a special kind of panic. Hope you find a good plumber fast.

Wow, I totally get that now. I used to think trying to fix things yourself was always the right move, no matter what. But after my own disaster with an old pipe that burst, I changed my mind. The cost and mess from that one mistake were way worse than just calling someone who knew what they were doing from the start. Sometimes knowing when not to be the hero is the smarter move.

Honestly @mason361, I think trying to fix stuff yourself is still worth it even when it goes wrong.
