Saw a guy at Home Depot fix a stripped screw with a rubber band

Kept stripping cabinet hinge screws in my 80s kitchen remodel, thought I had to drill new holes. Tried the rubber band trick out of desperation and it actually held. Anyone else got a one-second fix that saved a bigger headache?
