Neighbor lady watched me try to hang a picture level for 45 minutes before she finally spoke up

She walked over from her garden and said 'honey, that wall hasn't been straight since 1972, just eyeball it and move on.' Had to learn the hard way that some walls are built wrong and no amount of bubble levels will fix it. Anyone else got a nosy neighbor who saved you from your own stubbornness?

Used to be one of those people who'd whip out a level for everything. Hung a shelf in my mom's old house and spent an hour fighting it until my neighbor yelled over the fence that the whole addition was built by a drunk guy in the 80s. Just stuck the shelf up crooked as the wall and it's been fine for years now. Sometimes you gotta let the wall win.

Three old houses in a row on my street and every single one has door frames that are off by at least a quarter inch. You can hang a picture level in any of them and it'll look wrong because the ceiling is sloping or the floor is tilted. Its not just shelves either. I notice people trying to force everything to be perfect in life when the whole foundation is already bent. My buddy spent weeks trying to get his lawn to grow in neat rows but the lot is on a hill and nothing lines up anyway. Sometimes you just gotta look at what you're working with and meet it halfway instead of fighting it.
