My dad called me out on my stupid drywall patch job last weekend and it stung because he was right

I was bragging about fixing a hole in my hallway ceiling from a plumbing leak. He looked at it and said "son, you just covered the problem, you didn't fix it." He pointed out the tape was already peeling at the edges and the mud was way too thick in the corners. I spent like 3 hours on that patch and it looked okay from 10 feet away but up close it's a mess. He showed me how to feather the mud out another 6 inches on each side and use a thinner coat. Now I gotta sand everything down and redo it this weekend. Has anyone else had a relative totally call them out on a project?

Wait wait wait, you said "the mud was way too thick in the corners" and I just got flashbacks. I did my first drywall patch last year and my uncle walked in, took one look, and just started laughing. He said I used enough joint compound to fill a swimming pool. I was so proud of myself too until he scraped a whole chunk off with his fingernail.

Oh man, that's brutal. I had a buddy who did his first drywall patch and bragged about how smooth it was, but when the light hit it right it looked like a topographical map. He ended up sanding through to the paper, Claire.
