Learned my lesson about paint matching after a Home Depot mishap

I tried to match a 5 year old can of Behr paint at the Home Depot in Austin. The guy mixed up a quart and it came out looking like pepto bismol instead of the warm tan I wanted. Ended up repainting the whole living room because I couldn't match the original color. Anyone else have a paint match go totally sideways?

Read somewhere that big box stores change their paint formulas every few years.

Home Depot is notorious for that. I've had two different stores try to match the same Behr color and they were off by a few shades each time. The problem is the dyes settle in the machine and they don't calibrate them often enough. If you ever need a match again, take the can to a real paint store like Sherwin Williams or a local Benjamin Moore dealer. They'll manual tint it and usually get way closer than those automated machines at the big box stores.
