IKEA shelf hack I tried last weekend went way better than I thought

I was totally skeptical about using those cheap metal brackets from Home Depot for a heavy bookshelf in my living room. After watching a YouTube video from a guy in Portland, I gave it a shot and bolted them into studs with 3 inch screws. The shelf held my 40 pounds of cookbooks without even flexing. Has anyone else had good luck with a hack you thought was gonna fail?

Did you have to pre drill the studs or just send it?

Yeah I went with just sending it on mine. But I used an impact driver with some serious torque, so it punched through clean. If you're using a regular drill or have dense studs, you might wanna pre drill. Nothing worse than snapping a screw halfway in and having to fight it out.
