I finally looked up how much I actually spent on my deck rebuild

Added everything up from last summer's deck project - materials, permits, rental fees for the nailer. Total came to $4,200 for a 12x16 space that still sags in one corner. How do you guys know when a project crosses from 'worth it' to 'should have hired someone'?

Sags in one corner" sounds like a leveling problem, not a cost problem.

Hundred year old foundation or just a bad pour on something newer? Kinda makes a difference on how you'd even try to fix it.

Wait, have you ever had a friend spend MONTHS trying to fix a "small sag" in their house? My buddy Dave bought this cute little bungalow and noticed the floor in the dining room had a slight dip. He read online that it was probably a leveling problem, maybe a quick mudjack fix for a few hundred bucks. So he called a guy, and the guy dug around a bit under the crawlspace and found a rotted out floor joist and a cracked support beam. That "cheap leveling problem" turned into a TWO THOUSAND dollar repair because the whole corner of the house had slowly been sinking for years. I swear, every time somebody starts talking about "just a leveling issue," I think of Dave's face when he got that estimate.
