Hit $1,200 in plumbing supplies for a bathroom reno that still leaks
I was dead set on doing it myself to save cash, but after three trips to the hardware store and a puddle on the floor this morning, I finally called a pro who fixed it in 20 minutes with a $15 part.

And that's the thing with plumbing, you're not just paying for the part but the experience to know exactly what to look for. Most guys I know who do their own work end up spending more on parts they didn't need and still have to call someone anyway. At least you cut your losses before tearing out the whole wall like my neighbor did last summer.

I read somewhere that the average DIY plumbing job ends up costing about three times what it would have to just hire someone from the start. It makes sense when you think about all the extra trips to the hardware store.
