The monitor arm install that ate my whole Sunday afternoon
I spent 4 hours trying to mount a dual monitor arm to a 1.5 inch thick butcher block desk last weekend, and I still can't decide if using a C-clamp or drilling through was the right call. The clamp kept digging into the wood and I was worried it'd crack, but drilling felt permanent and scary. Has anyone else dealt with a thick desk that just fights back against every mounting option? What did you end up doing?

Been noticing this with basically everything lately lol. Like modern problems keep expecting us to pick between "definitely ruining it" and "maybe ruining it later.

It sounds like you're describing the human condition, not some modern problem. Every generation has faced trade-offs between imperfect choices and kicking the can down the road. The difference now is we actually see the consequences coming and have to decide if short term comfort is worth long term stability.
