Realized my power strip was eating 15 watts just sitting there doing nothing.
Plugged a kill-a-watt into my desk setup last night to see where my electric bill was going and sure enough, that old surge protector was pulling power even with everything off. Anyone else ever check what their gear draws when it's supposedly off?

Found the same thing a few years back when I finally plugged my whole setup into one of those cheap watt meters... felt pretty dumb watching that number just sit there. My old surge protector was pulling about 12 watts constantly, so I basically had a small nightlight running in my wall 24/7 for no reason. Guess that explains why my electric bill always seemed a little higher than I expected. Now I just unplug things I'm not using, or I use those little switchable power strips. It's not a huge deal in the grand scheme, but it's one of those things I wish I'd known about years ago.

My buddy went the opposite direction and built this whole smart home system just to kill vampire power, cost him like 400 bucks to save maybe 15 a year.
