My cable management unraveled after 3 years of ignoring it

Last month I finally decided to clean up under my desk after 3 years of letting it turn into a spider web. I had this cheap power strip mounted with zip ties that came loose during a deep clean and everything fell behind my filing cabinet. Ended up cutting off power to my whole setup for an hour while I untangled a nest of HDMI cables and Ethernet cords. Has anyone else had a hidden cable disaster pop up when you least expect it?

Not gonna lie, I've never really bothered with cable management and it's never been an issue. Just shove everything behind the desk and forget about it.

Had a similar thing happen with my TV stand. Pulled it out to dust behind it and the whole bundle of cords came loose. One of them was so tangled I had to cut a zip tie with scissors. The worst part was finding out my surge protector was sitting directly on a heating vent for who knows how long. Took me like 45 minutes to sort everything out and bundle it back up with those velcro straps. Now I just kind of poke at the mess with a broom handle if anything falls back there.
