I've been mounting my monitors with the VESA plate upside down for 2 years

I finally figured this out last week when I was helping a buddy set up his dual arm stand. He looked at my setup and asked why my screens were sitting 3 inches higher than his even though we have the same arms. I just thought it was a brand difference lol. But then he pointed out the arrow on my VESA plate was pointing down instead of up. Apparently most plates have a top and bottom marking for weight distribution and I had it flipped the whole time. After rotating it my main monitor actually sits lower and feels way more stable now. No more slight wobble when I type hard. Has anyone else missed something this obvious on their own setup for way too long?

Hold up, the arrow thing is a clue but the real issue might be cable management channels blocking the full range of motion. Those plates have specific slots for routing wires that only line up right when the plate is oriented properly, so if you ignore that you're probably crushing your cables against the desk clamp. That extra tension from pinched wires could be what's actually causing the wobble, not the weight distribution alone.

Oh man, that cable management point just clicked for me because I had the exact same problem with my dual arm setup for like a year. I kept wondering why my right monitor would slowly drift down and I blamed the arm, but turns out I had a DisplayPort cable pinched in the rotation joint the whole time. Once I rotated the plate right and freed the cables, everything locked into place and hasn't budged since.
