I finally got why my dad still uses his old IKEA desk from 2004
My neighbor Mike came over last weekend to help me mount my monitor arm and saw my new sit-stand desk. He started laughing and said his $60 Linnmon from 20 years ago still works fine for his dual monitor setup. Made me think about all the money I spent on this fancy motorized frame when I could have just drilled a hole in the old one for cables. Now I feel kinda dumb for chasing the newest stuff when the basics do the job. Anyone else keep their old desk way longer than you expected?

Did you read that Wirecutter article about IKEA desks lasting forever?

My dad still has his Galant from 2003 in the garage. That thing has survived three moves, two kids doing homework on it, and me spilling coffee on it weekly for years. I bought a fancy new desk during lockdown and honestly the old one felt more solid. The new one wobbles if I type too hard. He paid like 80 bucks for it back then and it outlasted every piece of furniture I ever bought new. Sometimes the simple stuff just wins and we overthink it.
