The way folks bypass the standby switch on old Fenders these days drives me crazy

I was helping a buddy fix up a '65 Deluxe Reverb last weekend and he just jumped the standby with a wire, said it was useless anyway. Back when I started building 20 years ago in Austin, we always kept that switch for letting tubes warm up before hitting them with B+, and I've seen too many rectifier tubes blow from people skipping that step. Any of you old timers still use your standby switches or am I just set in my ways?

Used to think the standby switch was just a relic from old designs. A few years back I had an amp that kept blowing rectifier tubes and someone finally asked if I was waiting long enough before flipping standby off. Never connected it before that. Been a believer ever since.
