Had to pick between two transformers for my first build. Chose wrong.
So I'm building my first 5F1 champ clone and I get to the power transformer decision. I had a $40 Hammond on hand vs a $90 Classictone that my buddy swore by. I figured hey, how different can they be? Well the Hammond hums so loud it sounds like a beehive is living in my cabinet. I spent last weekend trying to shield it with copper tape and it barely helped. Anyone else cheap out on a PT and regret it?

The Hammond hum is a rite of passage in this hobby. Saved forty bucks but gained a permanent background noise. That money gets you silence with the Classictone every time.
