My Google Ads campaign tanked after I changed one landing page button color

Swapped the CTA from green to blue last Tuesday based on a hunch, and conversions dropped 40% in 48 hours before I caught it, has anyone else seen a single element change wreck their numbers that fast?

Oh man, that's brutal but honestly not surprising. I mean, it's wild how tiny tweaks can totally shift people's behavior, kind of like how my local coffee shop swapped their regular mugs for smaller ones and suddenly everyone was complaining about the "new recipe" even though the coffee was exactly the same. Blue might just feel colder or less trustworthy to your audience right now, like how a blue "submit" button on a form feels more official and scary than a warm green one. It's the same energy as when someone repaints a room and suddenly it feels smaller even though the square footage hasn't changed.

Is it possible that the color really does matter on its own though, Spencer? I get your point about perception, but I think we need to be careful about mixing up the cause and the effect. The coffee shop example works because the mug is a visual cue for quantity, but a color change on a website is different - it doesn't change the function at all, just the feeling. Blue is actually the most trusted color in most studies, which is why so many banks and insurance companies use it. It might be that the issue isn't that blue feels untrustworthy, but that your specific audience associates that shade of blue with something else entirely, like a boring government form or an old website they hated using. I just think if we put all the blame on "blue" without looking at the bigger picture, we might miss the real reason people stopped clicking.
