Warning: A local in Medellin called me out on my cafe work setup and it stung

I was working at a spot in El Poblado, my laptop and notebook spread out, phone on the table, using the wifi for hours. A guy who works there finally came over and said, 'You know, you're taking a four-person table for one coffee. It's not fair to others who want to sit.' I was so focused on my own comfort I didn't see it. I felt awful. Now I have a strict rule: one drink per hour minimum if I'm at a table, and I pack up if it gets busy, no excuses. I also scope for spots with bar seating first. Has anyone else had a moment like that that changed how you pick your work spots?

That "focused on my own comfort" thing is a real modern blind spot.

My friend Sam had a flat tire last Tuesday on a busy road. He was trying to change it himself, getting soaked in the rain. Five or six cars slowed down, people just looked from their dry seats and drove off. Finally a guy in an old truck pulled over and got his hands dirty to help. Sam said he realized later he's been that person in the car before, choosing his own dry drive home over a few minutes of being uncomfortable for someone else. It's an easy habit to fall into without even noticing.
