Tried coworking at a coffee shop for a week and my productivity tanked

I figured the change of scenery would help me focus, but after 5 days I got maybe 3 hours of real work done total. Has anyone else found a specific type of space that actually works better than a quiet home setup?

Oh man, this is exactly what happened to me. I think the real issue is noise level, but not the obvious kind. Coffee shops have this mid-range hum that feels productive but actually makes your brain work too hard to filter it out. I tried a library once and the silence was so loud it made me anxious, you know? The trick I found was a weird one: I used a white noise machine at home to mimic the coffee shop vibe without the actual chaos. Made a huge difference for me, way more than any real-life public space.

Yo wait @derek939 is onto something but actually coffee shops aren't just mid-range hum. I used to think it was random chatter too but nah. Real trick is the unpredictability. Even a white noise machine is too consistent and your brain catches on after like 20 mins. I found this site mynoise.net that lets you layer different sounds - I do rain + distant traffic + a faint cafe track without the clinking cups. That random blend keeps my brain engaged just enough without burning out. Library silence makes me hear my own breathing which is def worse lol.
