Overheard a guy at a Bali coworking space say he books flights through a VPN
He claimed he saved $140 on a ticket to Bangkok just by switching his location to Indonesia before searching. Has anyone else tried this with flight bookings or is it mostly hit and miss?

Nah, I'm gonna push back on this a bit. I've tried the VPN trick a few times (mostly out of curiosity) and my results were all over the place. Once I got a cheaper price for a flight to Singapore when I set my VPN to Malaysia, but the exact same search the next day from my normal US location was actually $20 less. It seems like flight prices are so volatile that the VPN thing is more about luck than a reliable hack. Plus, a lot of booking sites are getting wise and flagging VPN traffic now, which can just lock you out or show you weird error pages.

Right, because nothing says "great deal" like your bank thinking you're running a flight-booking operation from a random Indonesian coffee shop. Guess I'll just use my savings to bail myself out of the fraud department later.
