Found a coffee shop in Chiang Mai that lets me use their back office as a work space for free
Been bouncing around Southeast Asia for about 8 months now, working from co-working spaces and cafes. Co-working memberships here run like $100-$150 a month which adds up fast. Last week I was walking around the Nimman area in Chiang Mai and noticed this little coffee shop with a back room that had a desk and power strips. I asked the owner if I could work there for a few hours, offered to buy a drink. She said I could use it anytime I wanted as long as I ordered something every 2 hours or so. Been there 4 days now, spent maybe 150 baht total each day on coffee and a snack. Way cheaper than a co-working space and the internet is actually faster. Has anyone else found a cafe that lets you use a back office or private room for work? I feel like I stumbled onto something that more nomads should know about.

Watch out, next thing you know they'll charge you rent AND a coffee fee.

...and honestly I could see it happening. My friend Sarah went to this new place downtown that had a sign saying "2 hour minimum stay required" and I thought she was joking until she showed me the receipt. They charged her $8 just to sit there with her laptop, which apparently included unlimited tap water and access to their outlets (wow, how generous). She said the room was dead silent too like a library, except someone kept getting up to sharpen their pencil every five minutes. The worst part? She felt too awkward to leave after just 30 minutes so she ended up buying a $5 muffin she didn't even want.
