A coworker told me my Slack messages sounded angry and I had no idea

After she pointed it out, I stopped using periods at the end of sentences and started throwing in emojis. Has anyone else had to adjust their online tone for work?

I turned into such a punctuation lawyer after that happened, overthinking every comma just like @pipera50 mentioned. Now I'm out here sending "ok!" like a caffeinated golden retriever just to seem chill.

Switched to shorter sentences and added a lot of "lol" and "haha" to soften things up. It felt weird at first like I was being too fake but people actually started reacting better to my messages. Once I saw it worked I just rolled with it and stopped overthinking it.

Lol and haha to soften things up" - so you basically turned your texts into a nervous laugh track. Next you'll be adding "lmao" after telling someone their dog died. I get it though, I did the same thing once and felt like a corporate bot trying to be "relatable." But hey if it works it works. Just don't let the lol virus spread too far or you'll end up sounding like a guy who laughs at his own jokes before telling them.
