The guy at my hardware store told me to use sharpies on my Facebook ads

So I was complaining to this older dude who works the paint counter about how my click through rates were tanking. He said I should literally take a sharpie and circle the main feature in my ad images. I thought he was messing with me. Like, who does that in 2025? But I was desperate after spending $300 on a campaign that got me 12 clicks. I tried it on a small test ad for our store's grill sale. Drew a big red circle around the propane tank hookup. Clicks went up 40% that weekend. Now I do it for every product photo. Looks ridiculous but people really do look at the bold stuff first. Anyone else tried something this low tech that actually worked?

Yeah that works way better than you'd think because people just don't read anything that doesn't stand out first.

My uncle still uses a laser pointer on his TV screen during family zoom calls.
