That one consultant who told me to stop optimizing for every keyword
I hired this guy from a local marketing meetup in Austin for $500 and his only advice was to pick 3 keywords and stick with them. I thought he was nuts because I had been chasing like 50 long-tail phrases for our blog. Six months later our organic traffic actually went up 40% because we weren't diluting our content. Has anyone else had an expert tell you something that sounded too simple but actually worked?

Trimmed my landing pages from 15 to 3 and doubled conversions in a month.

Read something similar in a marketing book about how focusing on fewer things actually builds more authority with Google. The guy who wrote it called it the "topical authority" approach, where you own a small corner of the internet instead of half-assing everything. Your consultant was basically saying the same thing, just in a more practical way. People overcomplicate SEO when the real trick is to stop trying to game the system and actually be useful on a few topics. Glad it worked out for you, that 40% bump is proof the simple stuff wins.
