Just found out my email open rates were inflated by 40% for 6 months
I was looking at my Mailchimp dashboard last night and noticed something off. Turns out, Apple's Mail Privacy Protection has been skewing my numbers since last September. I dug into it and found a detailed breakdown on the Litmus blog that explained how opens are being auto-tracked even if nobody actually reads the email. Now I'm questioning every campaign I sent this year. Has anyone else had to adjust their strategy after realizing your click rates tell a totally different story than opens?

Oh great, so now we can't even trust our own email dashboards to tell us the truth? That's just what I needed to hear after spending hours crafting those subject lines. Apple really said "let's make everyone question their entire marketing strategy" and called it a feature. I guess click rates are the only thing left that hasn't been completely ruined by privacy updates, but give it a month or two and someone will find a way to break those too. Time to go back to actually talking to customers instead of staring at pretty charts, I suppose.

Tell you what, a buddy of mine spent weeks tweaking his email list and then Apple's update hit. He said his open rates looked amazing but half the people he talked to hadn't even seen the email, just the preview.
