Hit 5,000 email subscribers last week and I'm not sure if it was worth it

I've been building this list for about 18 months, mostly through blog posts and a free PDF. On one hand, I finally hit that 5,000 number people say is a real milestone for making money. But when I checked my open rates, they've actually dropped from 45% to 22% over the last 6 months. I'm wondering if I focused too much on growing the list instead of keeping the right people on it. Has anyone else hit a big number only to realize it didn't matter as much as you thought?

ngl that drop from 45% to 22% is rough, did you check if your list has a bunch of people who just signed up for the freebie and never actually read your blog?

That 22% is basically a core audience of people who actually care though (if you can get them to open and click regularly). Might be worth scrubbing the dead weight and running a re-engagement campaign to see who's really in.
