Had a chat with a junior dev last week that lowkey changed how I write email copy

Honestly, I was venting about open rates to this guy on my team, and he just said 'your subject lines sound like a robot wrote them after reading a textbook.' He wasn't wrong. I'd been using all these formal phrases from the brand guidelines, and he pointed out nobody actually talks like that. Now I'm rewriting my whole sequence to sound more like a text to a friend - has anyone else totally flipped their tone after one comment?

So true, those brand guidelines can really kill your personality!

They made me rewrite my about page three times because it was "too conversational" for their brand voice. Like, what's the point of being a creative professional if you have to sound like a robot? I still cringe thinking about all the personality I had to strip out of my portfolio.
