Found a weird way to boost our local service ads click rate

Our plumbing company's Google ads were getting clicks but no calls for about two months, so I tried putting our actual phone number in the ad headline instead of just the description. Calls went up by 30% in the first week, which was a huge relief. Has anyone else tested putting contact info right in the ad copy like that?

Guess we're all just out here using the same secret cheat code...

All the best ideas come from accidentally bumbling into them, right? I ran the same move for my tree trimming service and it was like someone flipped a switch - calls went from zero to "can you stop the phone from ringing." Funny thing is I spent like two months trying to figure out fancy ad copy before just slapping the number right there. It feels almost too stupid to work but that's the whole secret I guess.
