Finally hit 500 email subscribers after 3 years of grinding

I started my tiny newsletter back in 2022 just as a side thing. Last week I crossed 500 subs and it felt bigger than I expected. I remember sitting in a coffee shop in Austin sending the first issue to like 12 people. Has anyone else hit a small milestone that actually meant more to you than you thought it would?

Used to think those big subscriber counts were the only thing that mattered but you're totally right. 500 feels special because it's real people who actually stuck around for years, not some viral spike. Honestly makes me rethink chasing numbers and appreciate the slow build more.

Read this article the other day by some creator who hit 10k subscribers but said the first 500 were the hardest and most meaningful because those people actually engaged and talked back. Made me think about how the 500 number keeps getting brought up in creator spaces now. Like there's something specific about that threshold where you've got enough of a base to build momentum but you still know your community personally. You can probably name your top 50 at that point. Kind of wish more people talked about that instead of just celebrating the million subscriber milestones that feel totally disconnected from actual people watching.
