Dropped $120 on a Facebook ads course that taught me nothing new

I was stuck with my ad costs going up and got roped into a course promising a secret strategy. After two weeks of videos, it was all basic stuff I could've found in YouTube comments. The real kicker came when a random guy in a forum told me to just test 3 ad sets with different audiences and kill the loser after 24 hours. That simple tip cut my cost per click by half. So now I'm done paying for flashy courses. Has anyone else gotten way more from a free forum thread than a paid program?
