Changed my mind about video length after a weird coffee shop meeting

I was at a client meeting in a Portland coffee shop last month, and the owner showed me his phone while we talked. He had a 90-second explainer video playing with no sound, just captions, and he was totally into it. I always pushed for longer, polished stuff (you know, the full 3-minute pieces). That moment made me switch to making shorter, silent-friendly clips for social. Anyone else find short videos work better now?

Longer stories still connect better though.

Stopped making 3-minute videos cold turkey after I realized nobody was watching past the first 15 seconds (truth hurts, right?). Switched to 60-second clips with captions built in from the start, and my engagement actually went up like 40 percent. The funny thing is I still write longer scripts for the client to read, but the final cut keeps it super tight. Took me way too long to learn that people scroll past anything that looks like a big time commitment.

Seriously? It's just a coffee shop video.
