A client flat out told me my email subject lines were boring
They said 'I delete them without opening, they sound like everyone else's.' That was a gut punch because I'd been copying what I saw other people do. I switched to writing them like I'm texting a friend about something cool, and my open rate jumped from 12% to 27% in a month. Anyone have other tricks for making promotional stuff feel less like an ad?

Honestly, are we all just overthinking email subject lines now? It's an email, not a wedding vow. The client told you the truth, which is good, but acting like it's some huge creative writing project feels like a lot. Just write it like a normal person and hit send. Congrats on the open rate jump though, that part is actually solid.

My friend's boss spent three hours on one subject line last week, it was wild.

Right, my subject lines are so bad my emails probably get mistaken for spam by my own cat. @mason361 a three hour subject line sounds like a cry for help, honestly. But hey, if a small tweak works and the client's happy, I'll take the W.
