That old photo app trial really got me this weekend

I read this post from someone saying they finally deleted 40,000 photos off their phone after 3 years of hoarding them with no backup. I tried the same thing on Saturday and found 900 blurry pictures of my dog's butt from 2021. The scary part is I almost paid for a cloud upgrade before I realized I could just filter by file size and nuke the junk in 20 minutes. Anyone else find that the app's own "smart" sorting hides way more garbage than it shows?

Wait, so the app's smart sorting was actively hiding the junk from you this whole time? Cause that's the part that gets me, the thing is supposedly designed to help but it's really just burying the trash deeper. Like you said, you almost paid for storage you didn't need because the app made it seem like all 40,000 were keepers. What happens when you find a random screenshot from 2018 that you KNOW you didn't take, is that also hiding in there? I bet there's a whole graveyard of accidental screenshots and duplicate memes that the app thinks are precious memories. Makes you wonder what else it's hiding from you on purpose.
