Why does nobody talk about proper layer naming in digital art showcases?

I spend a lot of time browsing through artwork on sites like ArtStation and DeviantArt, and I keep seeing these gorgeous paintings that get ruined by messy files. Last week I was looking at a fantasy landscape piece someone shared, and the artist had layers named "layer 1 copy 5" and "merge 12." It just makes me wonder if they ever plan to go back and tweak things. I know not every piece needs perfect organization, but when you put something up for public viewing, the file structure can say a lot about your workflow. I've been doing digital art for about 8 years now, and I learned the hard way after losing hours of work because I couldn't find a specific shadow layer. Has anyone else noticed this trend of sloppy layer names in showcases, or am I being too picky about this?

I actually read a post from a professional concept artist last month who said they spend almost 15 percent of their time just renaming and sorting layers before they even start painting. It really stuck with me because they showed how one messy layer cost them an entire client revision deadline. For me personally, naming things "sky glaze FINAL" or "tree shadow v3" has saved my butt so many times when I need to go back months later. But I think the issue is that a lot of new artists just don't know how important it is until they lose something big. My old art teacher used to say that your layer names are like leaving breadcrumbs for your future self, and I really believe that now.

Honestly that breadcrumbs line hits hard, future you will always thank present you for that extra minute of naming stuff.
