That one critique about my lighting changed everything

Someone told me my highlights were clipping too hard on a piece I posted last march, so I started checking my histogram before calling a piece done. Has anyone else had a single comment completely shift their workflow?

Wait, someone actually gave feedback based on a phone with max brightness? That's insane. I would have been so mad if I wasted weeks like that. I had a guy tell me my blacks were way too muddy once, turns out his monitor was just old and dying. Now I straight up ask people what they're viewing on before I even listen to their color advice. That's like asking someone for driving directions when they're blindfolded.

Has it ever thrown you off though when the feedback was dead wrong? I had someone tell me my shadows were too crushed, spent weeks trying to fix it, then realized they were looking at it on a phone with max brightness. Now I check my histogram too, but I also make sure I'm looking at it on at least two different monitors before I change anything based on one comment. That single piece of advice could be a total game changer, or it could just be someone else's bad habit they're passing on to you.
