That guy who told me to quit using charcoal brushes was right all along
A random guy on a discord server for digital artists told me last month that my brush choice was why my textures looked muddy. I ignored him cause I thought my way worked fine. Tried his suggestion with a flat jitter brush on a piece this weekend and the difference was night and day. Bet I wasted all that time training with the wrong brush. Anyone else had a stranger's advice fix a problem you didn't know you had?

Took me three years to realize my rendering style was fighting with my brush settings. Switched from a round hard edge to a chalk texture and suddenly my values actually blended instead of turning into mud. Had this moment where I stared at my old work and felt embarrassed I didn't see it sooner. Strangers can spot your blind spots easier than friends sometimes cause they aren't used to your style.

That bit about strangers spotting your blind spots faster hit home. Had a guy at a local art meetup spend five minutes looking at my work before saying "you ever try flipping your canvas horizontally?" and it completely wrecked my whole approach for the better.
