Overheard someone call brush packs a scam, made me rethink my layers

I was at a meetup in Portland last month and this guy said spending 40 bucks on a brush variety pack is a waste because you only ever use 2 of them. At first I wanted to argue, but then I counted the ones in my procreate folder and yeah, I've touched maybe 3 out of the 12 I bought. It made me realize I was hoarding assets instead of learning how to push one good brush. Anyone else end up treating brush collections like something to finish instead of just picking a default and moving on?
