Overheard someone at the gallery say my piece looked unfinished
Last Saturday I was at a small exhibit in Austin hanging my latest digital landscape, and two strangers walked by. One said to the other that my piece looked like a sketch I gave up on halfway through. What got me was they weren't being mean, they just saw it that way. I thought the loose brush strokes added motion, but maybe they read as lazy. Have any of you gotten feedback like that at a show, and did you tweak your style or just let it go?

Ha, that's rough but honestly kind of freeing. The thing nobody's mentioning is that people in galleries almost always talk about what they MISS, not what they see. Like, if your piece was too polished they'd say it looked corporate or overworked. You can't win with random walk-bys because they're literally just projecting their own taste onto your work. I'd take the "sketch" comment as a compliment in disguise, that loose motion quality is what separates digital art from just another render. If you tighten it up now, you'll lose what made it yours.
