Not convinced that before-and-after posts prove better skill

I scrolled through that big thread of digital art progress showing 3 month gaps. Most of them just looked like they learned a new brush setting or lighting trick. Real improvement takes longer than a quarter to show up. Am I the only one who thinks these quick turnarounds are more about picking easier techniques rather than actually getting better?

Real improvement is slow and boring. Those 3 month jumps are usually just someone finally figuring out one specific tool or trick.
