My comic page looked flat until I switched from one brush pack to another

I was working on a six panel comic page last week, using a free brush set I got online. The lines felt stiff and the shading was just okay. Then I tried a different set, the 'Comic Pro' pack that costs about $15. The line weight variation was automatic and the texture for inking felt real. The whole page popped in a way the first brushes never could. Has anyone else had a simple brush change make that big a difference in their work?

Why do my lines look like a drunk spider drew them no matter what brush I use?

Switched to a textured pencil brush for sketching and it just clicked. My drawings finally had that loose, rough feel I was after. Totally get what you mean.

Read a blog post once that called it "controlled chaos." The right brush makes the mess look intentional. Makes so much sense now.
