That $60 vacuum sealer saved me from tossing a whole chicken last Tuesday
I had a whole roasting chicken that was about to hit its sell-by date, and I couldn't cook it for another two days. So I grabbed my cheap FoodSaver knockoff from Amazon (the one I got for $60 two years ago) and vacuum sealed it right in the fridge. When I opened it up Thursday, the meat was still pink and smelled totally fresh, like I just bought it. Has anyone else had a vacuum sealer pay for itself by stopping just one big food waste disaster like that?

My $50 Amazon one paid for itself the first time I sealed a family pack of pork chops that were on clearance for 60% off... I froze like eight of them and they came out perfect a month later. But the real win was when I vacuum sealed a half-eaten block of cheddar and it didn't grow mold for three whole weeks. I mean, that thing sat in the back of my fridge like a forgotten science experiment but still smelled fine when I found it. Pretty sure my wife thought I was crazy when I started sealing everything from bacon to leftover spaghetti sauce. Honestly, if it stops me from having to toss another $15 bag of salad mix that goes slimy in two days, it's worth every penny.

Have you ever tried sealing something like a bag of chips that's half empty? I swear it keeps them crisp for way longer than just folding the bag over. The cheddar thing is real though, I've had a block of pepper jack last a month in the fridge without any mold. It's honestly kind of gross how long some stuff stays good, like a science experiment you actually want to eat. I'm with you on the salad mix, that slimy stuff is the biggest rip off in grocery stores.
