Ordered a refurbished printer "like new" but got one with a snapped toner door

Ordered a certified refurb from an eBay store last Tuesday because it was $180 vs $400 new. Opened the box and the toner door hinge was cracked, plus the drum had streaks. Seller wants me to pay return shipping since I opened it, but their ad said fully tested. Anyone else deal with this catch-22 where the 'deal' becomes a $25 shipping bill? Should I just dispute it or eat the cost?

Wait, does the seller's return policy actually say anything about opened items, or are they just making that up on the fly? That's the real question here, because "certified refurb" usually means they eat the shipping if it's their fault, and a cracked door plus streaks is clearly their problem. I'd screenshot the ad where it says "fully tested" and open a dispute with eBay, since they almost always side with the buyer when the item is defective like that. Just be ready to escalate it if the seller ghosts you, and don't close the case until you get your full refund including the original shipping.
