Noticed my local hardware store jacked up pipe fittings 40 percent over 3 months while the online supply place stayed the same

I was pricing out a repipe job last week and the same 3/4 inch copper elbow that cost me $1.20 back in March is now $1.70 at the counter, but the same fitting shipped from SupplyHouse.com still rings up at $1.15 - has anyone else seen local shops inflate their everyday stock like this or is my store just testing me?

Bring your phone right up to the counter next time and show them the online price before you even pull out your wallet. It's ridiculous they think we won't check, but most folks just pay the extra without looking.

Tbh I went through the same thing with my local spot. They wanted $2.50 for a 1/2 inch brass tee that was $1.80 online. I just started buying in bulk from the online place and now I order everything ahead of time. My store eventually matched the price when I showed them the screen on my phone but that felt awkward. Now I only grab stuff from them if I need it right that second and can't wait two days for delivery. It sucks watching them try to squeeze you for an extra 40 cents on something that costs them maybe 50 cents to stock.
