My aunt's advice about buying off-season clothes saved me $80 last week

My aunt called me last month and said I should start looking at winter coats in August. I thought she was crazy but I went to Kohl's anyway last Tuesday. Found a $150 parka marked down to $65 because they were clearing shelves for fall stuff. Then I grabbed a pair of snow boots for $40 that were originally $110. She does this every year and says you save 40-60% if you buy stuff 3 months before you need it. Has anyone else tried this trick or do you just wait until you actually need the item?

Used to think buying stuff way early was a waste of space in my closet lol. But I tried it last year with a heavy parka and saved like half off what it would have cost in December. Honestly it's a solid move, just gotta have a spot to store it until it gets cold.

I mean, your aunt is onto something for real. My mom actually gave me the same advice a few years back and I thought she was just being old school. But last August I snagged a Columbia jacket for like $55 that I saw go back up to $150 in November. The trick is you gotta have the self control not to wear it early when the first cold snap hits, lol. I keep mine in a storage bin under my bed so I don't get tempted. It feels weird buying snow stuff when it's 90 degrees out but your wallet will thank you later.
