Took 9 builds before I learned fan placement actually matters

I always slapped intake fans wherever they fit and called it good. Last month I finished a build in a Define R7 and my GPU temps hit 82C under load, so I flipped two top fans from exhaust to intake and dropped it to 68C. The kicker was my buddy laughing and saying the top fans were starving the CPU cooler of fresh air the whole time. Who else has ignored simple airflow directions for way too long because it looked fine?
