Hot take: vertical GPU mounts are a waste of good airflow
Went to a mini LAN party in Austin last Friday. Saw three rigs with vertical GPU mounts. All three had temps 8-10 degrees higher than mine with a standard horizontal mount. The glass panel blocks the fans too much. I get that it looks cool but why sacrifice cooling for looks? Anyone else notice this at your local meetups?

Man, you're missing the POINT. Vertical mounts are for builds where you actually care about the cable management and the GPU sag. My buddy runs a Phanteks Evolv with a vertical mount and his temps are FINE, maybe 2-3 degrees higher but his card doesn't sag like a droopy eyelid. Plus, if you have a decent case with a mesh side panel or a vented one, the glass isn't even blocking anything. The airflow issue is mostly a myth unless you're using a cheap case with a solid window and no space. And let's be real, seeing the full RGB cooler and the card's design is WORTH that tiny temp bump when you're not even hitting thermal limits under normal gaming.

The real issue nobody brings up is that vertical mounts create a dead air pocket between the card and the motherboard tray where heat just sits. Even with mesh side panels, that gap traps hot air your rear exhaust can't reach because the GPU fans are drawing fresh air from the wrong direction. It's not just about the glass, it's about the physics of how the air actually moves through the case.
