Serious question, why do people type out dad jokes that are way too long to land?
I have been hanging around this board for about 4 months now and I keep seeing the same problem over and over. People post these giant paragraphs where the punchline is buried in the middle of like 5 extra sentences that do nothing. A dad joke works because of the pause, right? You set it up quick, you drop the punchline, and you let the groan happen. If I have to scroll to find the punchline, the joke is already dead. Last week a guy posted a joke about a scarecrow and it took him 6 sentences just to get to the part about being outstanding in his field. That is a classic and it should hit in one line. I started counting the words in my own jokes after that and cut most of them down to under 20. Try it with your next post and see if the reactions change. Am I the only one who bails on a joke once it gets past 3 sentences?
