Recited the same joke to my kids 3 times, finally got one to groan today

I've been testing a two-line pun about a ladder at dinner for a week, and my 9-year-old finally rolled his eyes this morning. My wife still won't count it, but I'm taking the win. How many repeat attempts do you usually give a joke before you retire it?
