Update: My brother-in-law, who's a cop, said most identity theft starts with a stolen mail check

He told me he sees it every week, so I finally set up a locked mailbox and switched to online bill pay. Anyone else make a small change that actually feels like a big security win?

Oh, the bank is worried about phishing emails? That's rich. Maybe they should stop sending me official looking emails asking me to "verify my account" by clicking a shady link. Feels like they're creating the problem they're trying to solve. My locked mailbox can't get phished, at least.

Right, the "official looking emails" are the worst. I mean, they train us to click on stuff that looks exactly like their own messages. It's a total mixed signal.

My bank says phishing emails are the real problem.
